A Frightful waste of Time...
Written By Anonim on Kamis, 29 Oktober 2009 | 23.58
Last week, after finishing up a very productive conference in Orlando, my girlfriend and I decided to head to Donwtown Disney, to visit Universal Studios for their Halloween Horror Night. Strange thing to do on a Business Trip I know, but it seemed like a fun idea at the time.
As we should have known, the Park was fit to burst, overrun with teens and their parents. Each of the rides we headed to were saying waiting times of up to 150 minutes in line!
Having made the effort to get there, we decided we should queue up for at least one ride, 'Dracula', and see how we got on. Now, no word of a lie, this line was HUGE. I'm talking 400-500 metres long, moving forward at a snail's pace, wiggling back and forth around the barriers.
At every corner, you would turn and there would be another long line in front of you, seemingly neverending. Thousands of people keen to get on the ride, but very few people giving up hope, continuing to stand in line for over an hour and a half!
It was crazy!
So, eventually, after standing for well over an hour and a half, we got to the ride entrance, only to find that this was a standing ride, and a poor one at that. It was a haunted house affair, with lots of fake cobwebs, people jumping out at you as you snaked your way through narrow corridors... A bit like standing in line all over again!
Needless to say, we weren't very impressed and the whole ride was over in under 5 minutes. All that effort, queueing up, only to be disappointed at the end!
Which leads me finally onto the point of this creepy tale:
Studies have proven that steady-state cardio, the type most people do in gyms on treadmills, bikes, cross trainers and rowing machines, moving at a steady pace for up to an hour, is a complete waste of time for fat loss.
Yet, very few people realise this. A bit like our standing in line, they persist working at it, believing that the end result will have been worth the hard work and wait. But sadly it isn't. Studies show that after 12 weeks of this kind of exercise, 5 TIMES A WEEK, there was no change in body fat levels in the test subjects, over dieting alone.
All those people you see plodding along on these machines, day after day after day, will look exactly the same in 6 months time as they do now - guaranteed.
People need to get smart and learn that bodyweight exercise, or high intensity cardio, done for a shorter period of time but at a higher pace or effort, is the only way to get fast results with fat loss.
Systems like the Fit Business Trip work the whole body in under 15 minutes, raising your metabolism and keeping your body guessing, unable to switch off and just go through the motions.
The key to fat loss is level of effort, not time or longevity.
So next time you pop into the hotel gym, keen to burn off your business excess, spare a thought for those people waiting in line for uninspiring rides at theme parks.
It's better than sitting down doing nothing, but longterm, you're likely to be disappointed with the results...
