Save time at the airport...
Written By Anonim on Jumat, 04 September 2009 | 08.01
Business Travel always entails a certain level of 'dead' time.
This is the time you spend at the airport, dealing with long queues at check-in and security, and then sitting waiting for your flight boarding details to appear on the departure boards.
Take my advice – use this time to your maximum advantage.
First off, once through security checks, find a shop to buy last minute snacks and food. By that I don't mean a double cheeseburger and fries. I mean healthy food options like nuts, biltong, beef jerky, water and fruits. Buy what you need for the flight and then relax.
Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit as soon as possible, away from the hustle and bustle of the duty free shops. Nearly all major airports now have wi-fi access, so this is the perfect time to get some work done, before you start your onward journey.
Respond to last minute emails, and then ensure that you have set up your email auto-responders, so that less-important emails received during your trip can be left alone until your return.
Ensure that your mobile or cell phone answerphone message informs callers that you are absent from the office or other clients. Again, this will let callers know your status, and reduce the need for you to return every call that gets filtered through to you during your trip.
Get any last minute tasks done at this stage, so that once you arrive at your destination, you can rest.
Go over your schedule and mentally plan ahead:
Have you got all your files easily accessible?
Are your presentations loaded and stored somewhere safe on your desktop?
Do you have directions to your hotel, contact details of the clients you are visiting and some loose change in the currency of your destination country for tips, taxis and unexpected small expenses?
Making these last minute checks will free up more time while you are away, allowing you to negate the need for spending more time doing things that really aren't that important or pressing.
With the free time gained, you can relax, sleep, sightsee or exercise, and actually feel like a human being on your return home!
