For all you pen pushers, desk jockeys and office bunnies, here are some tips for staying full and eating healthily throughout the day, without being tempted by the vending machine down the corridor or the newsagents at the end of the road!
Stock your desk drawer with healthy snack options that you can use throughout the day to keep you full of energy and help improve your concentration, both of which are much needed right now, if you’re to impress the boss during the ‘Credit Crunch’…
Here are your desk drawer rules:
Rule 1 – Have a Tupperware tub filled with vegetables.
Keep them bite-sized - choose tomatoes, celery sticks, carrots, chopped peppers, whatever you like, so long as it requires minimal preparation
Rule 2 - Pair your veg with good sources of lean protein.
Canned tuna
Low-fat cottage cheese
Beef Jerky
Tub of Organic Peanut Butter
STEP 3 - Add a healthy fat to add taste and a feeling of filling.
Raw almonds, pecans, and walnuts (to fit in the palm of your hand)
Natural peanut and/or almond butter (1 to 2 tsp)
Hummus
Mix and match these foods as you like, but always combine foods from Rule 1 and 2 or Rules 1 and 3.
Here are some good ideas:
1 chopped apple with peanut butter
1 celery stick with hummus
A small palm of almonds and a banana
A tomato and 2 spoons of tuna
1 carrot with 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese
So, stay on the right track, pack your tupperware tub and hide it away in your desk drawer for times of need.
Just DON'T let your co-workers know that you have supplies...
